‘Shine like stars in the universe’

Philippians 2;15

Our vision provides a guiding light to the pupils, staff, Governors and parents to ensure we have a dynamic mix of high achievement for all, exceptional pastoral care and expansive opportunities for the children. We want our children to become the exemplary citizens of the future. We are a vibrant, happy, family orientated community where everyone really feels they can flourish and  achieve anything to which they set their hearts and minds.

Maths

Our South Otterington CE Maths curriculum  is based on the National Curriculum.

We use White Rose Maths as the basis for the delivery of learning in Maths. White Rose Maths provides a clear and well structured platform for the systematic development of Mathematical skills, knowledge and understanding.  Pupils are taught maths daily. In addition to daily maths lessons pupils take part in Early Bird Maths and Flashback 4 sessions. This provides pupils with the opportunity to revisit important mathematical understanding.

Policies

The calculation policies below form the sequence of learning for Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division.  As we continue to implement White Rose maths these will form the basis of how pupils will learn to calculate. As pupils understanding progresses, learning moves from being concrete based (or supported by apparatus) to conceptual understanding.

Mathematical language is central pupils understanding. The vocabulary document shows how this develops though each year group.
